Hi, I am currently running vbulletin on my forum. It has many great plugins and is a paid-for forum software. I would just like to ask a few questions about MyBB.

1.How does MyBB profit from free forum software?- I cannot see any potential revenue from MyBB.
2.Is it better than vBulletin? If so, in what ways? I would like to compare advantages and disadvantages of different forum software.
3.How many forums use MyBB? Any statistics?

If those questions could be answered it would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Phiesteh
I can't really mention anything about "profit", but we're pretty much like all other open source software. We just develop it to provide something good for the public to use!

You can compare the features of vBulletin and MyBB here: http://www.forummatrix.org/compare/MyBB+vBulletin

That MyBB version is 1.4.2 (currently, we're on 1.4.6) so it's a little bit out of date, but still you can see it's got practically everything vBulletin has but free. MyBB 1.6 is already in heavy development and MyBB 2.0 is going through the first stages of development - so you're always going to get more and more features and releases as we go along.

The only true way you can test the features out is to try it yourself! You can get a demo without having to install it here: http://www.opensourcecms.com/index.php?o...Itemid=159

We don't really have many statistics on usage, as we don't really track them. Although, KDE's community forum is powered by MyBB - http://forum.kde.org/ - and EA has chosen MyBB for their Battlefield Heroes beta forum software too, and there's probably more out there. There's also http://ncaabbs.com/ which is a large MyBB forum too (over 4million posts).

But like I said, just try it out - you might like it Toungue
Thank you for answering my questions, I am installing it on a testing folder on my server now to play around with the settings.
