It's not "permalink" though. For true permalinks, you'd have to save a thread the way it is at the time a permalink is generated. A new reply changes the thread, editing a post changes it, (in case of my plugin) changing the title of a thread changes the url, etc.
permalinks are something entirely different, they're meant for citations, where you can post the link and the link will show the page the way it was when the link was created. for example wikipedia permalinks, they don't take you to the article, but to the specific version of the article you were seeing at the time you got the permalink.
