when users use the quick reply to reply to posts once posted the screen turns to white and have to refresh the page to get back into the thread.

is there a known cure for this?

See what reuploading a fresh copy of ./inc/functions.php does.

Does it happen if the reply will be on the same page, create a new page, or either??

only happens when it is going to the same page not when there is a new page, your onto something :p
