All these threads about math, I decided to tell my horrors...

Soon, I will go back to college to get a degree in Meteorology. I always wanted to be one but couldn't handle the math. Now I figure I want to be one and want to learn the math, I am sure I can get the hang of it with my will power to get into weather forecasting...

I was just wondering, are there any good free websites to start learning math while I am waiting for college registration to come around again.
one of the huge collages has all there courses online. free. ummmmm MIT i think. check their site.
I've failed college math more times than I can remember (now I'm putting off College Math II until my last quarter Big Grin)... that being said I've been given a lot of learning guides from various professors and tutors so when I get home I'll send the links your way (I also have 4-5 student subscriptions for various math sites that provide video tutorials I'll send you). Wink
thanks folks Smile
The main problem I have with maths websites is that they all explain things using obscure mathematical notation. Now coming from a computing, and more specifically a programming perspective, I find that incredibly confusing; it's normally a case of spending ages deciphering the bloody thing which then turns out to be something simple.

Does anyone know of any maths websites aimed at non-maths specialists? That would be handy, since all the maths notation makes for an annoying learning curve just to find out what something does Smile
Lol, math was never a problem with me.
I get to do math 4 years ahead.
My one question is why use a math website?
Trust me, textbooks, despite the boring look to it, are actually more helpful.
But videos make it a lot easier to understand, this coming from somebody who's taken 5 math classes in college and only having 4 credits to show for it (4 credits = 1 course). Wink
Well, I failed A-Level Maths, but managed to pass my Maths for Computing module at University Smile

True, the only maths textbook I have ever found useful (more useful than websites) is Mathematics For Computer Graphics, but only because it explains things in English and not gibberish Smile

Not much help you you though Shawn, sorry.

If I'm learning anything in general, I hate video tutorials. Textbook is the way to go for me, all the info I need is right there in plain English, unless of course the Professor is lecturing the material when you can ask questions after class.
It all depends on what type of learner you are. Tests have determined that I am an auditory learner thus I learn better with sound (listening to somebody provide the information). Some people are kinesthetic (movement based) learners and learn better by writing or acting out the lesson, and others are visual who learn better by reading/viewing the information. (And who said psychology wasn't worth taking?) Wink
