Hello MyBB Group,
I've been using the Akismet plugin successfully for the past few weeks. Just recently after I've updated to 1.4.7 from 1.4.6 my friend tried to post something and then edit it and then it said he got banned because of the Akismet system detected it as spam. I lifted the ban of him. He was able to post fine before.
Is this a bug? I'm not sure if this can be replicated.
False positives, they happen a lot with spam prevention. If it's a bug it's probably with Akismet itself, not the MyBB plugin, the plugin just connects to the Akismet server and runs checks IIRC.
Thank you and that is a good answer. I forgot that these types of plugins can cause false positives. Does the MyBBoard.net forum use it?

No, the MyBB software is already pretty much protected against spam-bots with CAPTCHA and a few other tricks up our sleeves. Akismet is included with MyBB because we want to be prepared for the future if the spambots get ahead of us for a little while.

I advise you only use Akismet for sites with a serious spam problem. Better to manually delete occassional spam than to accidentally ban members.
Yeah, I Accidentaly Ban a Great Member, and he dont want come back, he believe that I Ban Him
I Think is Better deactivate it...
Good point. I shouldn't be using it since I don't have lots of spam at all.
@rafaweb: I'm sorry that that happened to you. Hopefully he'll come back in the future and realize that you didn't do anything.

That reinforces the idea I had to only have Aksimet affect people with a certain post count, it shouldn't apply to people with loads of posts for this sort of reason.

I realised that. I never seem to get spam bots on MyBB at all. When I had a vBulletin forum, I was flooded with them.

Yeah, thats a good idea, to only apply to newer members or others.

Thanks, I apologized with him for the understood but not they all can understand and so not even way. This will be a lesson for us.
