When I installed MyBB on my local machine I set the password to "admin" as I always do with any software. Now I tried to change the pass on the LIVE version of the site but the cache redirected me to the localhost version of the site (different issue) and so the pass was changed on the localhost because I didn't notice the url right away.

I try to change the pass on localhost back to "admin" and it says that it must be 6 characters... But it was just 5 characters like 30 seconds ago.

So it seems like you can set the pass to any length on install but it must be 6 characters after that point?

the minimum password length is a setting, you can set it in the admin cp (user registration options)

default min length is 6, it's possible that this check is missing on install

I guess no one expects the webmaster to be using such a weak password?
