I have read the documentation and it states the requirements are the same as the board installation, which are PHP4.3, yet the converter claims I need PHP5.

Is there an older version of this converter that runs on PHP4?
I sorted the PHP version, all ok now.

I have to say, though, your converter is second to none. It is flying through the conversion and is far better than some of the 'paid for' converters.

Looking good!!
I ran into the same error when trying to install the merge system. How did you sort it out? I got the error:

The MyBB Merge System requires a PHP installation of PHP 5.0 or above

But the board runs just fine. Please let me know what you did to fix this.
The forum will run fine because it doesn't need PHP 5, whereas the merge system does... PHP 4 is old, PHP don't support it anymore, you should see if your host can upgrade.

If your host will not upgrade to PHP 5, you may want to try converting it locally on your machine
(With something like Wampserver) and then import it to your server.
