I don't know if I would got as far to say that. Although it's becoming harder and harder to find situations where you need to buy one it's worth it in many areas still.

But, for what he seems to want to do yes he won't need to buy anything. In less he wants someone to integrate his WP and MyBB.

You still would not have to buy it. If you found someone that would do it for free. I think their is a free script that does that.

There was but no one maintained it(to my knowledge).
