I think the authors of the site used their own coding/script for the multi-hoster.

It's perfectly lega, in terms of MyBB. But i don't think the authors of that script will release it, so you should write your own.
Of course you can do the same, there is nothing i can do to stop you, However i'm not going to release any instructions on how to setup such a site.
