I visited my forum after a while to update it from 1.4.6 to 1.4.8 as soon as I realized there had been a couple of versions since mine. I visited my index to find it defaced by some message about the elections in Iran not being rigged and for Obama to mind his own country. I updated my forum and checked the index file, replaced it with the original 1.4.8 etc but my index is still defaced. The attack is accredited to 'Nobody.Coder'. I cannot find the source of the defaced index. The rest of my forum is okay. I have put the forum in maintenance mode until I fix it but my index is still defaced.

Check out this thread.

Revert index template.
Delete any files that aren't an index file from ./cache/themes/
Delete any new admins that may have suddenly appeared.
Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, and try and keep more up to date with releases, this vulnerability was patched a month ago.

I have completed all the given steps but to no avail. The message remains.

Have you completed both the steps in the sticky and the ones provided by MattRogowski?

If it's still there, you just haven't reverted your index template to default...

I only have one theme (afresh pearl) and I restored the templates to default from the ACP. all the green ones are now reset to default. no greens remain.
