up untill now a friend of mine has Upgraded my forum for me due to my lack of knowing how to. Well I want to learn how to do this on my own and maybe cause I am thick headed the tut on the mybb site just doesn't go in depth enough for me.

my question is do I just upload those files into there respected folders to do the upgrade?

Make sure to make a backup of your site and set your board to closed.

Very basically it's a case of backing up, uploading the new files to overwrite the original ones, and running the upgrade script, if necessary. What are you upgrading from??

running MyBB 1.4.7 and want the security of having MyBB 1.4.8

In that case, you need the changed files package or manual edits here: http://blog.mybboard.net/2009/06/26/mybb...y-release/

mybb_1407_patches.txt is the manual changes for security, changed_files_1408.zip is for the security and bug fixes. The bug fixes one is probably best but if you only want the security changes, go for it.
