Hi,
Sorry, but I have not been able to find out how to make posts that I have read show up as read so I don't keep opening the same ones over and over.
Can anyone help?
I would like to do this not only for myself, but as the default setting for all users on my board.
We are currently at 1.4.4.
Thank you!
Joni Buttke
Edit: I missed the 'threaded' bit
Anyway, you should really upgrade your forum. 1.4.4 is 8 months old, you're vulnerable to serious security issues.
You could try giving a:visited links a different color in your theme for the threaded mode links. So if your browser remembers having visited a particular posting it would show that one in a different color from the others.
MyBB itself does not track read status for replies in threaded mode at all.

Thank you for your confirmation that this feature does not exist and for your suggestions.
That is sad news as our users were previously using a newsgroup (!) which listed the Subject line of previously read entries in threaded discussions in bold -- they are used to it and found it extremely helpful. Although they find many myBB features helpful, they really miss this productivity aide.
Our users are international without many resources. Many will be accessing from borrowed computers and/or computers in internet cafes. The browser solution you propose would not help them if they are using public computers though, correct?
Joni
MyBB is primarily a forum software for linear threads (which is what most people use as far as forums are concerned), so it's not very well suited if you want something that behaves like Usenet. You should probably ask your users wether they can accept that forum threads work in a linear fashion, and (if they can't) look for a different software solution that suits your needs.
Why did you move from Usenet anyway? Did your group get deleted due to lack of traffic or something? Usenet folks do not usually want to give up the comforts of a newsreader and Usenet etiquette. Usenet as a communication platform is superior to (and very different from) web forums in many ways, it'll be hard to find a replacement for it.
I know only one forum that uses Usenet style threads properly, but they have made their own custom software solution, and it isn't available to anyone.

Hi,
In all honesty, one of the biggest detractors from the newsgroups was the difficulty our small but very international user set was having setting up the newsreader in their varied environments. We do not yet really have the staff to support them, and the forums seem easier to access and supported multiple languages as well as helping communities in various languages.
We also liked the deep structure allowed and the ease of introducing new moderators and editing posts that we found in myBB.
