I see that mybb has a feature to do mass and private emailing, but not sure how to get it to work. Is there some configuration somewhere to set the outgoing mail server etc?

Sorry please ignore - it just worked on it own, magic!

Make sure you allow up to 30 minutes to send as that is the default time it is set to

Tasks are run when someone is on your forum; once the due time of the next task run arrives, the next page load of the forum will trigger the task and it'll run. You can manually run a task via the Task manager, click the little alarm clock image.
