I'm trying to use str_replace to replace some things in the contents of postbit.

What is the variable for the content of postbit template??

you mean the contents of a post ??

it is $message for post content.

I mean the content of postbit, like the section where it includes {$avatar},{$posts},{$joindate}

It's in the postbit template. All of it.

No but how do I represent it in code so I can use

str_replace("oldvar","newvar",$postbit_content)

dude.. what do you wanna replace ?? tell me exactly and i think i may be able to guie you..
