Just wondering how I can get the pretty 'new thread' button back? It was there when I installed the update, but I did soemthing to the template to have my old one override it.

It could just be your cache - try doing a hard refresh (Ctrl + Refresh) on the page.

Otherwise, if you've customised the templates somehow you can revert any customisations to that specific template by selecting 'Revert' in the templates manager to the right of the template name.
