My original background color choice for this future Las Vegas forum entry page was black. However, since this will be the the first impression for a wide variety of groups, I do not think I should rely just on my own preference - the overall appearance may just be too dark for many. In general, what do you prefer, light backgrounds or dark backgrounds?

Click on the link or image below to see what the front page will look like with a gray, blue, red, crimson, orange, or black background.

NOTE: I found that going directly from one background color to another may influence your impression. I chose to turn my head away from the screen for a moment between color changes to get a "fresh" view.

P.S. - Regardless of the default color choice, I plan to let users choose their own bookmark link by adding their preferred background color to the web site URL bookmark:

White is always good. Grey too.
I like the grey and blue the most.

White looks professional yet Black / Grey is easy on the eyes.
You shouldn't use colors for large backgrounds that have text on them.

Table headers, footers, etc are fine, but not block backgrounds.

White is a very professional background color.
Although the orange-red center menu area probably fits in with the Las Vegas excess and excitement theme, this will be a forum for local niche groups. The orange-red center with the colorful logo and colorful stream of faces is probably just too much color.

I'm leaning toward dialing it back a bit, example:

Generally I prefer blue :p It's probably one of the most used colours on the web. Whether it's dark or light depends on the theme of the website Wink
