How can I get tabbed forums like http://www.hackforums.net/ has. I think it looks cleaner.

Found it because MyBB Central is a big MyBB plugin resource site... it's only available there but there is a post exchange offer for a free subscription: http://community.mybboard.net/thread-54397.html
