Seeing as the mentor group is gone (and I do agree with the reasoning but I think something similar needs to fill its place) I think a group called "Valued Contributor" or something similar should be added.

This group is both to recognize peoples contribution to MyBB but also to give an idea of which members can be trusted like the mentor group however this group will obviously not be confused for staff.

People should be awarded this status for:
  • Contributing many useful plugins, themes or language packs
  • Contributing many useful tutorials
  • Providing a lot of help to people (for MyBB, the merge system, Plugins or other topics on the MyBB community forum
  • Exceptional forum conduct (assumed along with other merits)
  • Many bug reports and in particular if they provide a solution to the bug.

This group could also act as a kind of starting point for people who wish to one day become staff and also give senior members a bit of responsibility to maintain their conduct and contributions.

Another important benefit that this will have is that it will take status away from post counts and focus it towards MyBB contributions.

Promotion to this level would be done through a staff member putting the member forward by making a post in your staff forum then having for example a 7 day pole for all staff to vote on. This way it would be fair.

Maybe this group could also have the ability to flag posts for moderators and make them invisible until a moderator checks them, though this is only a maybe, I am not such a fan of this idea.

Let me know what you think of this idea or any refinements you might have to this concept. I think this is how the mentor group should have been done in the first place.
We would probably have the same problem as we did with the mentor group though... Some people would still think the "Valued Contributor's" are part of the MyBB team.
:/ Then give everyone Rank Images. Make that one just a invited group :/

I don't think so, I think the word "Contributor" implies that they merely contribute and are not part of it as such. They don't even have to get a special color if that would prevent confusion, just a rank image.

Did you have a good read of my post? Staff vote on who is promoted so it won't be "everyone". I am thinking probably no more than half a dozen at first.
No i mean everyone a rank. And then made this group Wink
I think we, the MyBB Group, needs to refocus ourselves. Less of the extraneous stuff

I agree with him.
If you aren't going to give serious support, you shouldn't even bother trying. We don't need to separate everyone. To me, it's kind of stupid when people want an 'official response' to their problem. If the advice makes sense, try it out. If it doesn't, don't. Simple logic, really.

I think MyBB would go just great if there were no visible group differentiations, personally. No Developer, Manager tags; just a [happy] community of members.
Yeah but IMO when you don't have a status hieraki people just tend to argue a lot... Toungue
A hierarchy will happen with or without fancy badges and groups - it is human nature.

Anyway, I agree with this. I think the confusion started with the word "Mentor" which implies they are, in fact, staff (the first time I came on the forums I immediately assumed so). A "Trusted Member" or "Active Contributor" would do much better.
