Is MyBB's source code copyrighted? I cant understand the GNU GPL license thingy. If i was making my own forum software could i use some of MYBB's code as a foundaiton?

As long as it's released under the GPL. And, you don't remove the copyright in the files themselves.

Umm, I don't know anything about phpbb's license but if it's GPL the same limitations will apply.

You can do what ever you like. You don't have to say anything about mybb other than in the source where you have to leave their credits.
