how do i change the new post icon with out deleting the old ones or changing the theme?

You'll have to either delete the old ones or change the theme, you can't not do one of those two. If you keep the old ones you'll need the new ones to have a different name, which will mean changing the templates, and if you want to keep the templates the same, you'll need to replace the current images.
