My initial thoughts on the subject is that for a traditional website counting page views and visitors is the most effective way of gauging success. A forum's best gauge would be the number of members, the number of threads created, and the overall post count.

I am a newbie so I would like to solicit feedback from the more experienced forum admins. What tool/reference do you think is a better gauge of a forums success?

Quality Posts, partnered with Active Members is typically the most accurate gauge of success. The higher those two are, the better, imo.
