Would it be difficult to move my forums from /forums to the main site dir (/)?
How would I go about doing that without messing anything up?

Yes, i havnt tried this muself but i think know what you mean. Do u mean the forums show up on the main index? If so you would have to renaim the file to EG. Forums to index and to save the hasle of re-instaling it just copy and paste the content of the old index ont the new one (forum). Dont quote me on that, but thats what i would do if i ever did do it.

ok hey
well 1st u have to move your files !! ofcourse to the root directory not the ./forum
Then go into your Admin control panel > Settings > General Configuration and change the board URL, same for the cookie domain,
no edit for the sql needed, unless ur using another server
