Hi there, Everyone,

I am currently running vBulletin 3.8.x, on a Big Board community (40,000 registered users, 1.5 million posts, around 500 concurrent users at peak), and I am looking to evaluate other alternatives. Can anyone tell me about how MyBB performs for Big Boards? How does it compare with vBulletin for high concurrencies? What system does it use for search, and can its features and functionality be easily adapted for enterprise needs?

Thanks for your help!
Well it works well and it can be optimised in some ways of course. Ryan made a post some time back for that as he helps run http://ncaabbs.com/.

The search I believe there are 2 options by default mysql and another one that I can't remember off the top my head. In the post I talked about before by ryan he talks about using sphinx I think.

I don't know how it compares to vB but I would imaging better as well they did a great job keeping streamlined.

I don't know what enterprise features you would need so can't really say.
Thanks for the quick response!

Re: Enterprise features, the sorts of things I am looking for:

-- Paid subscription support (integration via PayPal IPN would be ideal)
-- SEO standards
-- Long-term scalability
-- Ease of integration with other applications, such as MediaWiki.
1. http://www.mybbcentral.com/thread-1613.html
2. MyBB comes with the URLs you see on these forums, there's also this plugin: http://mods.mybboard.net/view/google-seo
3. Can you expand on what you mean by that??

Chris did this once a long time ago. I would dig it up for you but it's in a middle of a huge thread somewhere Confused. However it is possible and shouldn't be to hard.
Probably but it's an updated version that I didn't know existed Toungue.
Thanks, guys, this is awesome information.

As for Merge Support, how can I expect a 1.5 million post vBulletin -> MyBB merge process to go? (As in time, effort, ease, etc.)
I'd recommend you do it on a localhost; you won't hit any host limits (you may have access to your php.ini currently anyway but it's still easier on a localhost really) and it wouldn't need an internet connection, so no bandwidth usage, no sudden internet outages which stops the merge, etc. Then you just upload a backup of the new database when you're done and you're good to go.

As for ease, it's really simple; install MyBB, upload the converter files, and run through the wizard, you basically just click Next every so often and let it run through. Not so sure about time but it'd be best to leave the posts going overnight or something.
Sounds close to my own site.

1.5 mil posts and about 500 users online

I run this on 3 servers but that's because I am under a lot of DDOS attacks. It can run fine on a single dedicated. There are slight bugs but nothing bad and performance from mybb has been overall very good. You should see an improvement in load going from VB to MyBB. Just be sure any plugins you add are well written and queries are optimized.
