Hello.. this may be a stupid question, but i have to ask, i'm running a SMF 1.1.10 board and would like to give this ago.. my question is, if i do the merge does that render the SMF board ussless, meaning will the SMF board now be dead?

No, but since all your members and content and such will be on the MyBB board, why would you continue using it?
However, if you look at the MyBB Merger System Bugs forum I've got a few bug reports in for SMF 1.1 mergers. So you may want to apply my fixes if you intent to use the merger system. I've got a few threads here in the support forum about the same bugs too.
let me ask you this, can i install the board (MyBB) take my time to tweek it and then do the merge
Of course. You just have to install it to a different folder on your site. And make sure you close the board so people can't log in/register. You can install your themes, redo all your smilies and such so that they match what you have on the old board. Take your time.

For support from the MyBB team you're already in the right place. And likely those bugs are just a matter of time.
I never did fix the attachments issue I was having. We just ended up moving the 4 attachments manually. Can't do that with a big board though.
