Well I'm trying to install MyBB on a 'Free Hostia' server to test it out, I was reading the Install Documentation and it said I had to give files certain permissions eg 666 and 777. I was going to do this but my server gave me a warning saying:

666-Be careful with these permissions
777-These permissions can be hazordous!

So I'm asking is it safe to give these files those permissions?
Do I have to it this way or is there a way around it?
It is, there's no security risk to speak of Big Grin those files are ones that hold things like avatars etc so they have to be publicly open Smile
It's necessary CHMOD them to these settings otherwise they won't work. You can try 757, if the forum is broken after that, try 775, and if not, you'll need 777. If you don't give files more permissions than they need, or give permissions to things that don't need it, that's where it might cause a problem; however it'll cause a problem if you don't CHMOD the required files/folders.
