Can I upgrade directly from 1.2.12 to 1.4.9?

Download the full MyBB 1.4.9 ZIP. Take a backup of your forum, then upload the MyBB 1.4.9 files over the 1.2 files. Make sure not to overwrite/delete ./inc/config.php! Once the files are uploaded, browse to
www.yoursite.com/install/upgrade.php.
Oh, and forgot to add, when you run the upgrade script, make sure you select the 1.2 version you were running.
1.2.14 actually doesn't have any known vulnerabilities...I still have a handful of 1.2.14 sites that I been too lazy to convert since I have to redo the themes too.
And yes...you should be able to convert to 1.4.9 just fine.

True that may be but it is best to stay always up to date with the latest version.
