Hmm, that may be, but I haven't worked with wordpress for over a year and I am sill used to 2.7, maybe the structure has changed?

umm yeap, custom fields are one of my (many) favorite features on WP They can save your life in many situations, including thumbnails. But FMB is right, there was a plugin to add thumbnails to posts, but is easy enough to add them with custom fields (since the plugin probably required a template edit)
