I think I did everything right, but who knows?

New installation of 1.4x

Problem:
CAPTCHA image no longer shows up on http://www.reserector.com
CAPTCHA works fine on my other site http://www.mississippi-mud.com

(mm.com is an add-on domain of res.com)

Would someone please have a look at it and guide me on what to try?

For the most part, these threads had no conclusion, or follow up. I have no way of knowing if the fixes offered were successful or not. A couple of them were resolved by switching to a different host. both of my sites are on the same host and one of them works, so that is probably not the problem.
I only know that I have been trying to resolve this on my own and need a little help. ANY help is appreciated.

In the AdminCP, under General Confituration there is an on/off toggle for CAPTCHA. It says:

CAPTCHA Images for Registration & Posting
If yes, and GD is installed, an image will be shown during registration and posting where users are required to enter the text contained within the image to continue. This helps prevent automated registrations and postings.

What is "GD"? Maybe there is a problem with the GD program. (pun intended)

Someone please help with this. I am leaving CAPTCHA on so that someone here can look at it, but all the while, no one can register on my site.

Well, I could not fix it, so I installed reCAPTCHA II and I am back in business.
