I followed Matt's troubleshooting procedures here http://community.mybboard.net/thread-64776.html
because when I clicked on the 'new thread' button it took me to my index page www.castingnewyork.com

Nothing in those procedures worked, so I deleted the ./inc folder from my server then uploaded a copy I had saved on my harddrive.

When I went to my forums at http://www.castingnewyork.com/forums I received the below error:

"Error
The installer is currently locked, please remove 'lock' from the install directory to continue"

I searched for this "Install directory" but could not find it on my server or harddrive. Is it a folder, or file and what is the exact name of it? How do I unlock it?

Yes it is a folder that would be on your server and it is called "install".

Deleted your whole inc folder?? Why?? It's saying it's not installed because you've deleted your config.php file. Upload the inc folder again and remake your config.php file with this: [wiki]Inc/config.php[/wiki]

I don't know how this error would be anything to do with cookies anyway.

If you're seeing that error you'll be viewing the installer, it only says to remove the lock file if you're viewing the installer when it's locked, do NOT run the installer again. It wouldn't say that message when you're just viewing the forum as the whole purpose of locking it is so you can browse the forum with that folder still in place; you only need to unlock it when you're trying to access the installer, and if it's locked, it gives that error.
