Time and time again there's support requests of people adding smilies, to find they show up as the shortcut in the ACP and the smilie inserter, and it's pretty much always due to a / at the beginning or end (or both) of the image path they put in. Checking to see whether it begins or ends with a / and removing it would save these issues occurring.
