Is there some way I can add a new language file that I created into an existing template, for example call it from the headerinclude template?

You mean like {$lang->your_identifier}

Well yes, but I wanted to call an actual file, such as custom.lang.php for example. I've tried everything I know but so far no luck.

Add the definitions to global.lang.php, this will be loaded on all pages.

I know that but I was trying to avoid doing that. It is actually a theme I was thinking of releasing and I did not want the user to have to edit any files, this is why I am trying to call it using some other way.
