How do you revoke a members posting abilities?

Ban them from your forum.

Is there no other way? I thought you could revoke their posting permissions.

Yes, you can. Go to group permissions and edit their group's permissions so they cannot talk. Or, move them to the unactivated users group.

Just create a warning level, and after the user have reached xx% of warn it won't be able to post.
