Turn on CodePress in Admin CP Preferences, but it's buggy sometimes and may mess with you and your templates...

No, CodePress exists since version 1.4 and is enabled by default.
That's the same since I started using MyBB, which was just after 1.4 was released. Maybe you just had some different settings or something?

Yes. I only saw it with IE7/8, Firefox 3 and Opera 9. CodePress doesn't work with Google Chrome. Others not tested.
It's the first thing I turn off when I install MyBB.
