What's the problem ?
Despite what the Wiki says I'm pretty sure MyBB only supports PHP 5.2 and upwards so you should try and have your PHP version upgraded, see this announcement

I'm not certain that its causing your problem though (you really should still address the PHP version problem first), do you just get a completely blank page? If you view the source of that page does it say anything?
Is that seriously the best your host can offer you?? Bit like buying a new computer with XP on it. MyBB 1.6 will require PHP 5.1+ so you'll be stuck with 1.4, all hosts should have PHP 5 and MySQL 5 by now.
