Why would it? The portal.php get the posts from a specific forum and since the blog isn't a forum it doesn't fetch the posts.

So then why would they make it so the forums Announcements - Blog forum fetches the URL of the release and latest announcement.
If you do it in once place, do it in the other.

It was a cheap and simple plugin that I wrote to quench the complaints I was getting from other people. Almost nobody looks at the portal page (We've never utilized it here...). Everyone looks at the index.

I can see that. I never have looked at the portal page. Though maybe it would be a good thing to add.
