how to get youtube videos to run on this board?

Yes, if you search on the Mods site for video and youtube you'll find them.

You just need to create a new MyCode. No plugin necessary. I suggest to use [video=youtube]...[/video] or [video=name_of_your_video_portal]...[/video] because this is the syntax which comes with MyBB 1.6

Should have looked harder. The MyBB plugin for this supports a lot more formats than the phpBB mod.
