How do I update myBB without wiping anything?

Download it and view the 'Upgrade' file.

I uploaded myBB 1.4.12's Install directory, went to www.mydomain.com/forum/install/upgrade.php, and it said "Welcome to the upgrade wizard for MyBB 1.4.11." Whats wrong?

It's not just the install directory, you need the other changed files too. Upload the changed files package from the blog post.
