When the number of posts getting bigger and bigger, old posts get less and less chances to be viewed and referred. This is bad in many obvious view points...For examples, this cause duplicated posts, redundant support efforts, poor searching performance etc.

A manageable and scalable way of dealing with this challenge is using dynamic tag and keywords. This is better to be implemented in both threads and posts level so that the searching will be much faster and accurate.

Also, once this mechanism is implemented, user can create their own custom forum based on keyword based fetching. That should save a lot of browsing time.

This will also make possible for wiki to get dynamic references from valuable posts.

Tag systems aren't the best way to go about things. People can easily insert tags which aren't even relevant if given the option for unlimited, and if they are limited the pot body should contain the keywords.

Tags / keywords should supplement categories, not supplant them. And, as always, either a moderator or admin should be required to approve tags. Also, I'm not 100% sure about having tags on posts in addition to threads. Above all, this should stay a plugin for now.

Things are always have good and bad aspects. If tag is used, some sort of control, like approval or punishment of abuse etc should be enforced.

When the furum getting fat, what else we can keep the performance? For tech forums, like this one, we already have the issue of deciding a subforum for post, which means a post can well 'belong' to multiple 'forums'.
