I was unable to upgrade properly to MyBB 1.4.13 from 1.4.11 as I have installed the google SEO module.

I am not sure whether it is compatible with the latest version or not, but my forum goes blank when I use that modification. I think it has to do with the updated functions.php file for URL rewrite support.

Is there any way to upgrade without disrupting google SEO mod?

Did you upload settings.php ?

Never mind, I updated to google seo 1.1.13 and it works now.

Also the file permissions were mucked up when I uploaded, I had to chmod every folder individually before it worked again.

Why is the default files in the MyBB package have permissions set to None, None for group and others?

There are no 'defaults' in the package, we can't set CHMODs in the package itself otherwise we'd set them all to whatever they need to be. If the CHMODs are being changed it'd be to do with your host when the files are uploaded. If you have a file CHMOD to 666 and overwrite it it should stay at 666.
