Ok, I'm in need of a good gaming PC. Well, not necessarily a gaming PC but something fast. I dont want it to cost any more than £500 (yes I want shops in the UK (and preferably SHOPS, not suspicious online shops))

Here is one I've looked at:
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/advent-cen...0-pdt.html

This is the sort of spec I want:
  • Fast Quad/dual core Processor (2.8ghz+ intel, 3ghz+ AMD)
  • About 4gb RAM
  • Dedicated graphics (about 1gb+)
  • HDMI + VGA output
  • PCI slot x2
  • PCI-express slot (if the graphics card is not so good)
  • DUAL monitor support Toungue
  • 500gb + hard disk
  • Preferably WIFI built in (and definitely LAN)
  • 6+ USB
  • DVD rewriter
  • A decent sound card

So, I'm taking any suggestions Smile

I'll be using this as my main PC, as my other will be running windows Server. My laptop is running Linux Smile SO I need something powerful to play games, listen to music and also program on in PHP and vb.NET
Don't know exactly how your currency compares to USD, but I don't think you're going to find a really great gaymen PC for that price.
Actually £500 is nearly $800, which should be OK for a decent PC.

This is as good as your going to get for a gaming system, and is under your £500 budget to buy other components/accessories.

But for gaming? I'm no computer expert, but I don't know if you'll find a great deal on a gaming PC. For general usage, though, good budget.
Yeah. For gaming, it's a bit low.
Good gaming PCs are around £1000 so that'd make it around... 1600$?
Well, I dont want anything extreme, just faster than a normal PC Toungue
What games do plan on running at what settings and for how long? Depending on how the new games are and at what settings your largest costs are going the processor and gfx card.
I analyzed some of what you're asking for:

>(and preferably SHOPS, not suspicious online shops)

Newegg is the best.

>Fast Quad/dual core Processor (2.8ghz+ intel, 3ghz+ AMD)

No idea why you'd want quad unless you're doing virtulization. Also I take it 3 cores acceptable?

>About 4gb RAM

Makes sense. You will definitely want DDR3 RAM.

>Dedicated graphics (about 1gb+)

Unless you're planning on this being a rendering farm there's no need for over 1GB, hell, you could easily get away with 512mb.

>A decent sound card

Most motherboards have decent ones integrated.

I recommend you build your own computer to be honest. It'll save you 50-100 pounds easily.

If you don't know what parts to get, go with one of these:

£328 - http://www.hardware-revolution.com/500-g...-core-cpu/
£388 - http://www.hardware-revolution.com/600-gaming-computer/
£457 - http://www.hardware-revolution.com/700-gaming-computer /<--- I recommend this at your budget.

There are many online guides on how to do build your own computer. Here are quite a few popular ones:

It might also be worth a mention you can get Windows 7 at a large discount if you build it yourself, ordering at least one part from newegg. (Home Premium | Professional | Ultimate)

If you decide you really don't want to build your own computer then here's a couple that you might want to look into:

£358 - CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra 7215 Athlon II X2 245(2.9GHz)
£416 - iBUYPOWER Gamer Power 939i Intel Core i3 530(2.93GHz) <--- Intel (Core i3)
£417 - iBUYPOWER Gamer Power 535SLC Athlon II X4 620(2.6GHz) <--- Very overclockable.
£442 - CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra 2023 Phenom II X2 550(3.1GHz) <--- Get this one if you can afford it, it has a significantly better graphics card and processor. Not to mention the 700W PSU.
£449 - ZT Affinity 7366Ma Phenom II X4 965(3.4GHz) <--- Pretty good specs but the power supply is junk, buy a new one if you go with this

All of the listed above have a 1GB graphics card though keep in mind it's not just the memory amount that matters. They also all have a 500GB HDD.

>Good gaming PCs are around £1000 so that'd make it around... 1600$?

Um no? You can build an amazing gaming PC for $700 easily.

>Yeah. For gaming, it's a bit low.

Not at all. It would cost more if it included the monitor though.
