Could the version number be added to the default template only for the Beta (even if it can only be seen in "view source")? So we can see that a forum IS actually running the beta, and not that the owner is trying to advertise their forum....
I don't see the point. Haven't seen anyone trying to advertise their forum because of the 1.6 beta.
Plus it will be updated soon I guess.

You can see if the board shows some new features, such as the new buddy/ignore links on profiles, PM search and the User CP reformatting, etc. (assuming their templates have been updated).
Currently it's up to the admin whether to show the version they are using.
Don't see point show any source code displaying the version number as like Dennis Tsang said down to owner if she/he wish to display it on front end.
