Basically, I have an ad banner that I want to put just above all the sections in my forum, but I only want to make it visible to normal users. How do I do this?

Why not add it to the end of the header_welcomeblock_member template. Just place a "<br />" and then your code...after everything in that template.

I can't see the point in using a plugin for this, it's just a simple template edit.

Doh, tbh I only read the "want members only" bit and didn't even think of the templates.
