This is a new install. I followed the instructions. They suggested that it is safer to set config.php back to 644 or even 444. But here's what my control panel tells me:

Quote:2 of the required files and directories do not have proper CHMOD settings.
Please change the CHMOD settings to the ones specified with the file below

Configuration File ./inc/config.php Not Writable
Please CHMOD to 777

Isn't 777 a bit too open?

It's at 755 now. I'm surprised 755 is not adequate. OTOH, I'm no expert.

777 is needed for some servers, so we say that to cover everybody.

I raised an issue with it saying 777 for files as the most they need is 666, can't remember why that wasn't fixed.

For languages, it's the files inside, not the actual folder.
