In the past I've gotten some great help here, just by posting in chit-chat, since the questions didn't really belong in any other section.

...where is the best section and / or does mybb.com need a new sub-forum, or two, for those topics?

You can use chit-chat but ideally it might be better to use a PHP or server management specific forum which you can probably find with a quick google.

Sometimes it's nice to just ask here.

I agree, an administration area has been requested many times. Imho its about time its been brought in.
