If I, the Root Admin, changed my Display User Group to Registered, will that render my admin powers too?

No, you just have to set your secondary usergroup to Administrator.
No. If you change the "display group", but the primary group still has you as an admin, you will only appear as a registered member, yet have all the root admin permissions.
It won't. Try changing your primary user group, though.

I think you changed the Primary User Group
It's exactly that, a display group, purely what you appear as.
