What's the "Tables Check" task supposed to do, and why does it say it should be run via cron?

Wiki has no info.
It "Automatically runs a table check and attempts to repair any crashed tables." Which basically means that it checks to see if any tables have crashed or are corrupt, and then if they have crashed or are corrupt it tries to fix them.

It is best run via cron because it isn't a quick task, it takes a while to complete, and all tasks are run when someone loads a page, so if someone loads a page and that is running, it might take a while for their page to load. When it's running via cron, it will run outside of the forum and shouldn't effect loading times.
Ah, that makes sense.
Thanks.
