Can you remove the powered by and version links from the footer? Are we allowed to do it?
I tried googling, but barely anything helpful comes up.
The only reason I am doing this is to get away from hackers.
No, the copyright to MyBB in the footer has to stay. However you can hide the version number from a setting inside AdminCP

Admin CP -> General Settings -> Show Version Numbers --> Set to Off. You can not remove the copyright by any way.

I have seen some sites hiding them by CSS and some even removed it. But I don't think it really matters... all matters is your content..

As far as I know, there is no means to removing the copyright. In hiding the version number will help greatly against hackers though.

Admin CP --> Templates & Style --> *expand your template set* --> Footer Templates --> footer

are allowed to remove it, however you just won't be able to get official support

it's the same link added twice.
I don't think it is the copyright that is the problem. I agree with N1loy.. it is the content and the type people that are drawn to your site. I feel that since you enjoy the board that the copyright is a display of the people that created it, and should be left out of courtesy just as the creator of a theme should be. In a sharing community it is difficult to find software that comes close to Mybb. Try hiding your stats instead.
