You obviously don't get sarcasm.

The Government of India explain that why the chose this design..

1. It looks like "R" without the straight line in left side.

2. It also looks like Hindi "R" and it will reflect Indian culture.

3. The above two lines symbolize "=", i.e = 1 Rupee.

So will it be displayed as £1 or 1£? (Assuming the pound sign is pretending to be the rupee).
