Hi all,

I think I may have been following in the footsteps of StrettyNews lol.

OK here we go,

I have a hosting package from krystalhosting.co.uk

I originally tried installing phpBB and had no luck. So then I found MyBB and am now trying this.

Have followed the upload to the letter as far as I can see, but constantly get a 500 error when trying to install:

There has been an internal server error - ERROR 500

Referring URL (none)

Requested URL /forum/install/index.php

Server Name www.ios4rum.com

Redirect Status Code 500

Your IP "deleted"

Have checked the error log on the server and it says:

[Fri Jul 23 14:58:53 2010] [error] [client 86.152.171.148] SoftException in Application.cpp:256: File "/home/ios10000/public_html/forum/install/index.php" is writeable by group


Any ideas would be appreciated.

It looks like your files have too many permissions, and some servers don't like that. Follow this guide: [Wiki: HowTo_Chmod] (Broken link, head over to docs.mybb.com instead) and see if it fixes your problem. You might not be able to use certain file permissions from the looks of things.

The file in that error will be CHMOD to 666, set it to 644.

There was a host the other day that uploaded files with a CHMOD of 666 by default and then didn't allow them to be accessed because of that. How ridiculous is that. Probably what's happening here too.
