Color blending, some people don't do good with this. Aswell as me lol. Try to make it catchy to the eye as well .

I highly recommend http://kuler.adobe.com/ if you don't have a keen eye on chosing colours. It really helps.
And make sure to validate your markup and CSS afterwards, it's the first step for cross-browser compatibility.

Add jQuery flashieness to you theme; it can make themes alot better.
